The younger YOU is still in there! Move your body!

I was talking to one of my clients today, and she told me she had a profound moment of looking in the mirror and seeing her “old self.”

She specified she didn’t mean a thinner self, but rather, the her that was formerly filled with wonder, delight, and curiosity; a younger self, a happier self.

I’ve experienced this many times in my journey toward well-being. Some people refer to it as “waking up.”

It’s that moment when the true you surfaces; the one that’s been hiding under years of bullshit constructed by your ego to “protect” you from God knows what the fuck.

I’m sure many of you remember when it started; it was probably some time when you were very young.

My moment of “protection” happened when I was 23. I had been barreling forward, guns-a-blazin’, not giving a single fuck for most of my life and then, bam! The recession hit.

I had just moved to NYC, had six figures of student loan debt, and my prospects of getting a job were knocked down to non-existent. What happened? I began to “play it safe.” I began to “hide.” I started doing whatever I could do to not be hungry, and I started to drink.

I became sedentary. I did not prioritize taking care of my body because I was living in “survival mode.”

The result was a lot of lost, unhappy, resentful years. That culminated in me landing about as far from my fullest potential that I possibly could get, and I decided at that moment to start living for me. The old me. The “me” I remembered.

It was uncomfortable, but I began weeding the toxicity from my life. I began to see just how enmeshed in drudgery I had become and how lost I really was. I needed to rediscover my “something larger.”

What is that? For you, it won’t be the same as me. For every person, the “something larger” is different.

Waking up is different for every human. This isn’t like running, where you can just copy someone else’s training bit by bit and somewhat see the desired outcome. This shit is uncharted territory. You have to dig really, really deep to figure it out. But baby, it’s in there, underneath all that nonsense your ego has put together to protect you from the wonder that is yourself.

I would encourage you all to get started with motion. Motion is the key that unlocks so much of the soul. If you do one thing today, make it “moving your body.”

Tony Robbins talks at length about this- that physiology can actually change the state you’re in. There’s a distinct corollary between movement and mental state.

Sometimes, though, voluntary movement when you “don’t want to” is the hardest thing to accomplish.

I’ve been typing on my computer for about six hours, in between sending audios to a client. The last thing I want to do today is move. The more stress and obligation I find myself having, the more my body wants to resist the movement. Yet, I know that movement is the only way I will be able to feel better. Movement is the way forward.

Think of your body as a car, and the driver of that car is your spirit.

Your spirit is the real you, the young, beautiful you under all of that bullshit. That’s your higher self; the thing driving the car.

You need to move the vessel in order for your spirit to “get” places. Your spirit progresses when the body is taken care of. You can’t drive a car that hasn’t had an oil change in eight years.

The more you take care of your brain and body, the easier it will be for you to connect with the true you hiding deep, deep inside of there.

Movement unlocks the door to the “you” that you want to see.

If you do one thing today, move! Move in any way you can! Dance. Play! Love! Have sex! Move your beautiful body.

Do not be shy to move aggressively when nobody is around you! What are you afraid of? Yourself? Feeling stupid? You don’t feel stupid when you’re jerking off. There’s no reason to feel stupid dancing in the morning to some good tunes.

Commit to making movement a priority, and mark my words, you’ll start to see radical change pretty fuckin’ fast.
